EXPP 2009: On the crest of a new wave

EXPP 2009: On the crest of a new wave

We had an excellent event last week at the EXPP European Summit in Amsterdam.

EXPP European SummitThis is fifth time we have exhibited at the EXPP, but we really noticed a change this year.  When the event started back in 2005, e-invoicing was essentially a ‘nice to have’ for finance departments.  However. times have definitely changed. E-invoicing is now a ‘must have’ and is high on the agenda for banks, corporates and public sector organisations throughout Europe.  Why? Successful government e-invoicing projects in Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden and Spain are helping to accelerate both awareness and adoption in those countries.  The activities of the European Commission Expert Group on E-Invoicing, the PEPPOL project and the activities of the Euro Banking Association are all instrumental in changing attitudes towards e-invoicing and increasing awareness amongst large and small businesses across the continent.

EXPP 2009 was also notable for having high-quality delegates from other countries in the World such as South America, Mexico, Russia and India.  For example, e-invoicing is becoming more popular in Chile, where complex compliancy requirements are helping to accelerate adoption – apparently it’s easier to process invoices electronically than on paper!  E-invoicing has just become legal in Russia too, so we can expect to see growth there over the next 12 months.

We are already looking forward to next year’s event which may be held in Germany, where e-invoicing is well established and around 6500 million e-invoices* are sent annually.  Congratulations once again to Billentis and Vereon for another well attended, successful event.
